- A legend in his own lunchtime, Slipknot Sam is a daring escape artist snake. His highly acclaimed death-defying escapes have dazzled audiences at Pickle Circus for years. He can slip out of sailor's knots and grease out of granny knots. Not even Cowboy Tex and his cowboy knot can keep him tied up. A little girl from the audience once managed to tie him up in an impossible-to-escape shoelace knot ... but ssshhhh, he'd rather not talk about that! .
- Our hero, more or less, lives to clown. He is a quick-witted trickster who wants to grow up to be a Rodeo Clown. Tic-Toc is forever telling jokes (usually funny), and his crazy daydreams often get him thinking about funny situations. He obsesses over time, and wears two watches on his wrist in case one breaks down. Tic-Toc has a pet acrobatic piglet named Squiggly who is always there to share his adventures ... that is, when he's not out trying to save the world.
- Chompo the Chimp has an amazing chomp! He can chomp his way through anything giant bubblegum balls, razor sharp cacti, and even banjos! He is also one of Tic-Toc's best friends. Together they have lots of adventures. Chompo will do anything to help Tic-Toc out of trouble, even though he often causes all the trouble in the first place!
- It's clear to see who wears the baggy pants in Tic-Toc's household. Claris is a thirty-something super mum who juggles full-time motherhood with a career selling plastic containers. She is the putty that holds the family together, and sensibly draws the line at frivolous expenses such as brand-name silly wigs and designer clown shoes.
- Clockatoo is Tic-Toc's squawky-voiced alarm clock. He is somewhat of a know-it-all, and his constant chattering often bores Tic-Toc to sleep.
- Cowboy Tex is a bronco-busting, trick-roping, yodelling Southerner. As much as he'd love to be humble, he can't after all, he's a big star. And with an ego the size of Texas, one can only imagine how difficult it is for him to squeeze into his tiny, one-bedroom, fully furnished cow trailer.
- Dorbel is the circus nerd. Most (if not all) of his energy is devoted to finding ways to make himself cool, in the hope of propelling himself out of the low social status he now occupies. So far, no luck.
- Dudley Daredevil began his career in Hollywood, as a stunt double in the movies. But he suddenly found himself out of work when his movie double was accidentally flattened by a falling piano. Having a love of action and adventure, he decided to join the army, but was rejected because of his asthma. Then one day, he saw an ad in the local paper for a human cannonball. The rest as they say is history.
- Fiddlesticks is Tic-Toc's father. His widespread franchise in early-morning television made him the best-known clown of his day. He has a million stories and hours of bottomless advice much of which involves the best technique for cracking a peanut with a sledgehammer. However, those good old days of television are long behind him. Nowadays much to the dismay of his wife, Claris he wishes away the hours sitting in front of the television, in his pajamas.
- As Australian as bunyips and meat pies, Kanga is your typical knockabout Aussie roo. He may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but what he lacks in brains he makes up in enthusiasm. He can become super excited about even the most ordinary things. It is not unusual to find him hopping madly about at the idea of squeezing blackheads or finding a new loose tooth to add to his ever-growing tooth collection.
- A Polkaville-born teacher, Mr Highpants has returned to Pickle Circus Elementary (from which he graduated 25 years ago) to teach students how to suck cars through a straw and juggle snails. With his clumsiness, blunders, baggy orange pants, bald head, and tiny bowler hat, he is a wonderful role model for the students.
- Magical Manfred is a British illusionist. His dangerous rubber-chicken act and famous invisible jump-rope trick have been often imitated but never equalled.
- Miss Poppy is the school's helium-voiced balloon animal teacher. Mr HighPants likes Miss Poppy, and she knows it. But she hasn't made up her mind about him yet. And so she sends him mixed signals all the time. She squirts water in his face with her trick flower, and then turns around and asks him to join her while she walks her pet fish. She is a bit of a scatterbrain, and her delightfully kooky antics provide a never-ending source of amusement.
- Mr Pickle is the owner of Pickle Circus. His hair-brained schemes and bad business decisions are forever putting the circus into financial difficulty. And now the pressure is on the Pickle Circus troupe to bring back the crowds and escape the clutches of the evil villain Lenny the Shark.
- Buffoonery is not something you are born with you must study it. Principal Buffoon is the inept Headmaster of Pickle Circus Elementary, a zany school for clowns. Principal Buffoon would happily not expend any extra energy on enforcing school rules. He needs to save his energy for ... well ... it has to be something important.
- Clarabelle is the bookworm of the group and is one of the more sensitive, caring students at clown school. She sees the good in everyone and everything, and is always there to help classmates who are having problems with their clowning.
- With his bulging muscles, broad shoulders, and curly waxed moustache, Boris is one mountain of a man. Though he may look like a tough cookie, he is really a big softy. He prefers to spend his spare time tending to his tulip garden and cooking quiches.
- Wheeler is a real sourpuss who finds it hard to laugh at anything, including himself. In fact, it seems the only time he's ever truly happy is when he's unhappy. His heart is always in the right place, but he tends to find himself easily affected by peer pressure.
